homework for Wednesday night, September 9

1. Please re-read (or read) chapter of Things Fall Apart.
2. Write a blog comment (on this blog) in which you briefly list the three observations you made about your collection that you think are the most interesting observations for whatever reasons and say something about why.

  1. My observations on my collection:

The collection that I chose was my neckware collection, which includes scarves and ties. I could think of no other collection (i didnt want to do music because many other people were doing it).

    1) Two of the neckware pieces in the collection I made myself. This is important to me because it is one of the fun ways I express my creativity.

2)Eight neckware pieces are multicolored and bright. This is my favorite because it shows that I enjoy bright colors and I like to be unique and wear things that many other people may not wear; be my own person.

    3) All of the neckware pieces are folded in my drawer. This is my second favorite because I am normally not very organized, and when I am, I feel proud of myself that what I have can easily be found when I need it.

  2. Hi, I did my collection on playbills.
It was hard for me to find 3 of the most interesting observations out of all 25 of them, but here it goes. In class someone was saying that they organized their movie collection by the name of the actor who was staring in it, well when I looked through my collection I found that the actor, Tituss Burgess was in 3 playbills out of my 15. I forget who said that in class, but whoever it was maybe you could make a connection to mine! Also as another observation I order my playbills in the chronological order I saw them in. From the earliest date I saw the show in, to the newest. The last observation I thought was interesting was the fact that on the cover of all my playbills I have the date I saw the show written in black sharpie. It’s an easy way of remembering what happened the night I saw the show, and the great memories I made wit the people I saw them with.

  6. The collection that I chose was my "international" collection, consisting of special items that come from or represent places around the world.

My frst observation was that each item represents a different culture by the way it looks. To me, this is important and so neat because I love different cultures and having these things around me produces questions, interest, and more exploration in to that specific culture.

My second observation was that there are a wide variety of colors in the whole collection. The colors on the specific pieces give a certain sense of where they come from.

My third observation was not about each specific thing, but where they are. I have them all around my room in different places which represents the places from all around the world. To me that just seemed unique that even the placement of the collection represents something so big.

(By the way, I really like the other collections here too!)

  7. My collection is journal entires and here at the three observations I picked as most interesting:

    1) In the earlier entries I talk a lot about my day and what I did in 3rd-4th grade.

    - I think this is interesting because this is the time when I was first beginning to write in a journal, and its fun to look back and remember certain times.

    2) In the later entries middle school and up- I start to talk more about my feelings and myself- I also noticed that my entires talk about current events and things going on around me.

    - I like this observation and I think this is interesting because it is a big difference from my younger years!

    3) My handwriting has gotten smaller and I have gotten older, and I only write in cursive in 5th grade.

    - I think this is interesting because it is a random fact that is very visual that you can follow as you skim through.

  8. My observations were about my colection of music that I have built up over time.

My first obervation was of the texture and coloring of the music. The farther back I received the music the more yellowed and britle the pages became. This honestly made me think that I had to get more page covers.

My second observation was on how the music got more complex over time. The ones I recieved five years ago compared to the ones I revieved recently are on totally different levels. This led me to observe that I'd actually progressed over time.

My third and final observation was to do with how the music I use more often was on the top of the pile while the ones I haven't done recently were at the bottom. This made me observe that I like some songs more that others and shouldn't neglect songs.

  9. The only collection I own are playbills (like Sophia!). The three observations most interesting to me are…

    1) Half of my playbills are of ballet productions I have been in. This obviously shows that I am a dancer, which means I am artistic and enjoy the spotlight!
    2) The Broadway Shows have been seen in the last 5 years. I find this interesting because I started really enjoy musicals around that time, and this is evidence to prove it. And I’ve been seeing more and more each year!
    3) Some of the Playbills are torn on some pages and worn out while others and brand new looking. This observation was interesting to me because I realized that the more I enjoyed the show, the more worn out the Playbill was. If I ever see a production I loved, I look through the Playbill, almost memorizing each actor or dancers name.

  10. I wrote my 25 observations about the many pairs of earrings that i have collected over time from various people and places. The three observations that i found the most interesting are:

    1) 3 pairs were bought in disney world by my brother. These are really special to me because my brother is much older and it means a lot when he remembers to get me a gift.

    2) 2 pairs were hand made by friends of mine. These are also special because i know that they were made with care and are completely unique to other earrings.

    3) Some of the earrings are meant to be worn on specific holidays. I have collected earrings for christmas, halloween, valentines day and even a few others. These are such fun earring and i love wearing them!

  11. The collection I chose for this assignment was my collection of sheet music. I was surprised to find it particularly easy to find many interesting things about my acquisition.

1)The covers to the sheet music varied in colors such as blue, red, yellow, white, beige, green, gray and brown.
    - I am aware of the saying, "Never judge a book by it's cover" But I find that the color and texture of the music can be interesting, or say tomething about the piece itself.

2)I have performed only 6 of these pieces in public.
    - I only made this observation last night, and it never occured to me that though I've played many works, I haven't had the chance to perform them. This leads to another observation: I have much to explore in terms of what I'll be leraning over the next year.

3)One of the exercise books is kept in a binder because every page is photo copied from the original book.
    - I liked this oobservation beacuse it is a little different from the statistical observations such as "there are 36 scores in the total collection" and "The total weight of the collection is 20 lbs".

  13. My observations were done on my entertainment collection. The three most interesting observations from my collection were:

#9- 18 of the collected items were published after 2000

#23- A total of (1) items are holographic

#24- Out of the items collected, 5 are the second in a series.

If these are my most interesting observations it doesn't say very much for the rest of my observations.

  14. My most interesting observations on my iTunes collection were:

    1) The most played song in my iTunes library is "the I love you song" from 'The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee'.

    2) The songs with 5 stars are "Never is a Promise", "Smooth Criminal", "One Love", and "Party in the USA".

    3) There are 965 songs in my iTunes library.

  15. I made observations on my collections of souvenir books from numerous Broadway plays.

#1 While looking through all of my books, I noticed that all of the books have a synopsis of the play inside of them. I thought that was really interesting because I could learn the back story.
#2 I also made an observation that many of the pictures in the book tell the story of the show through out all of them.
#3 My last observation was that there were many pictures in all of the books. I love to look through all of them and it reminds me of when I saw the show!

  16. My observations were of my Playbill collection, as apparently were many other peoples were as well. My first observation is that of all of my playbills, only two are from plays, all the rest musicals. This made me realize I need to see more plays. Another, less personal observation, I realized that Playbills from shows I saw in the same week contained the same articles and advertisements as eachother. Im still trying to figure out why this is significant to me, I just found it interesting. As a final observation, several of my playbills are autographed by members of the cast of whichever show they are from. These Playbills are the product of my stalker-like tendency to wait at the stage door after a show.

  17. My collection was my movies and my three favorite observations are:
    1) All my box sets are produced by HBO... and I find this interesting because it show that HBO has great shows and I am obsessed with all of their shows.
2)I have 77 VHSes(plural?)... and this was interesting because my mom was gonna make me through them away when we moved but i was fighting to keep them because they are classic memories from my childhood that i will always remember.
    3) I have three movie that have never been watched.. this one is interesting because it just shows that my collection is always growing and it will only stop growing till the day i die because i love my movies.

  18. I have a collection of old record LP's, all from the late 60's early 70's. One observation I made was how I have is that Marvin Gaye's final album before he got killed. I pick this one because he was one of the best r&b artists that ever lived, and to have his last album as a record LP mint condition is extremely rare for a 15 year old boy like me to say. Another observation is how my Jackson 5 record was bought by my dad the day it was released. I chose this observation for a specific reason. One is because I usually buy cd's at F.Y.E. on the first day it comes out, and for a classic Jackson 5 album to be bought by my father on the first day during the 70's is similar to me in the 21st century. My last observation is how I have Michael Jackson's first two records, "Off The Wall", and "Thriller". I am a huge fan of his music, and these two records were the records that basically launched his career. For me two be able to put these two amazing albums in my record player and just jam to them, is definitely something to be proud of.

  19. I chose to write my observations about my collection of clothing.

    1. My first observation is that I only brought two light jackets with me.

I thought this was interesting because I am from Arizona so am not frequently cold and there is not a need for many jackets and most people from this area probably own many jackets.

2.I have 4 black, 1 red, 1 purple,1 pink, and 2 blue leotards in my closet.

This is interesting because I own leotards in all my favorite colors but I don't own a green leotard which is the color I need for my ballet classes.

    3. There is a purple, yellow, and green tank dress hung next to my neon green shirt.

I chose this as my final observation because it shows that I enjoy have a wardrobe with varied colors and styles. I also think that the differences in a person's wardrobe can say a lot about there personality

  20. I wrote my observations on my collection of postcards. The observations are not too in-depth but they each represent three reasons why i love collecting postcards.

My first observation is that two of the fifty-three postcards represent past events (atleast 20 years ago) such as musical concerts or political revolutions. I love collecting postcards because it allows me to represent many things that I find interesting (such as different places or events, etc). I love learning history (whether its music history or ancient history) and keeping artistic souveniers of my interests.
My second observation is that six of the fifty three postcards represent my support of humane causes or presidential elections. This observation is important to me because it allows me to make my collection more personal. This makes my collection not just postcards with pretty pictures on the cover but really something that represents a different side of me.
The last observation is five of the fifty three postcards are written in a foreign language. I really liked this observation mostly because the five postcards are some of my favorite postcards in the collection. They also represent another favorite aspect of the collection that I like, that I enjoy collecting postcards because they can represent my travels.

  21. My collection was of all of the cool rocks that I found on the beach one day, that I guess is a collection and here are my 3 observations on them:

    1. I have all of my rocks separated by texture, I have the rough rocks in one section, the smooth rocks are in another section, and the really smooth rock, just 1, is in another section.

    2. Another observation is how I separate them again but by the color of the rocks. I basically have only three different colored rocks and those are orange, white and other. Others are a variety of 1 rock being that certain color, which I think is two small to make a whole new category, so I just combined all of those types of rocks into my category.

    3. A final observation is that the rocks are separated a third time in the size of that rock, there are 4 categories, one for the really tiny rock, just one, another for the small rocks, another for the medium sized rocks, and a final category for the larger rocks.

  22. For this project, I really wanted to do an unique and distinguishable collection, but I have just moved to Boston, so my stuff is still boxed away. Unfortunately, I was stuck with doing observations on my only portable collection available, my ipod.

    Here are my three observations:

    1. More than half of my songs are classical. This shows that I love listening to classical music, especially violin!

    2. The shortest song I have is for 0:25 seconds. I thought that was interesting, because this song is not even an abridged version. It's the whole song!

    3. This was really surprising. I had 18 French podcasts in my music. They were not in the podcasts section of the ipod as they should have been! This proves that my itunes was probably messing up again, as usual. :)
